Captain Shai Hope and Rutherford brilliant batting guided West Indies to their highest successful T20I chase. Hope smashed an unbeaten 102 off 45 balls while Rutherford scored 84 from just 37 balls. Batting first, India set a 250 run target but West Indies chased it down in 18.3 overs with 6 wickets remaining. Shai Hope named Player of the match for his brilliant knock.

After winning the toss, West Indies chose to bowl first.

India Innings

Abhishek Sharma and Sanju Samson gave India a quick start adding 42 runs in just 4 overs. Spinner Roston Chase gave West Indies their first breakthrough by dismissing Abhishek Sharma for 20 runs. Ishan Kishan and Sanju Samson added 97 runs off 43 balls setting the stage for India’s huge total.

Wicket keeper batter Sanju Samson who struggled for runs in recent innings scored a brilliant 82 off just 41 balls. He was lucky to be dropped twice, first on 6 runs and again when he was close to reaching fifty. West Indies slowed India’s scoring between overs 12 and 16, giving away just 39 runs while taking three key wickets.

Shreyas Iyer and Tilak Varma added 83 runs off 33 balls giving India a perfect finish to reach 249 runs. Both Shreyas Iyer and Tilak Varma faced 18 balls each, scoring 40 and 44 runs respectively to boost India’s total.

West Indies Wicket Takers

Roston Chase bowled brilliantly, taking 3 wickets for just 24 runs in four overs while other bowlers struggled to control runs. Shamar Springer was West Indies other wicket taker, finishing with two wickets for 64 runs in his four overs.

West Indies Innings

Mayank Yadhav rocked West Indies in the first over, dismissing Kamil Pooran for 4 and Shimron Hetymer for a duck. Shai Hope and Rovman Powell added 53 runs off 27 balls for the third wicket helping West Indies recover. Mayank Yadhav struck again, breaking their partnership and giving India an important breakthrough. He dismissed Rovman Powell for 24.

Shai Hope and Sherfane Rutherford took control of the chase with a brilliant 120 run partnership off just 54 balls. Rutherford smashed 84 runs off 37 balls including 7 fours and 7 sixes before Kuldeep Yadhav dismissed him. Alongside Romario Shepherd who scored 34 off 13 balls, Shai Hope guided West Indies home in 18.3 overs.

Unbeaten on 102 off 45 balls, Shai Hope played a captain’s knock to guide West Indies to a famous victory. During his brilliant knock he hit 6 fours and 9 sixes.
