BCCI picks Ayush Mhatre as India’s U-19 captain for the upcoming World Cup in January in Zimbabwe and Namibia. Vihaan Malhotra has been named his deputy, taking over vice-captain duties for the mega tournament. The tournament will run from January 15 to February 6.
Both the captain and vice-captain are currently injured and will not take part in the upcoming South Africa series. They will report to BCCI Centre Excellence to manage injuries and expected to join World Cup team in time.

In their absence, Vaibhav Suryavanshi will lead India in the South Africa tour for the upcoming three match ODI series.
India has been placed in Group B for the tournament, alongside New Zealand, USA and Bangladesh in the World Cup. They will play their first match on January 15 at the Queens Sports Club Bulawayo.
Five times, India lifted the U-19 World Cup Trophy in 2000, 2008,2012,2018 and 2022 editions.
The 16 teams divided into four groups, followed by the Super Six stage, then the semi-finals and the final. Harare will host the finale of the tournament, where the top two teams from the semi finals will compete for the trophy.
