Batters help Australia dominates day 1 of the second test in the Ashes series against Australia. They were 339/5 at the end of day 1 after put into bat by England captain Ben Stokes.

David Warner (66 runs from 88 balls) and Usman Khawaja (17 runs from 70 balls) put together 73 runs for the first wicket. David Warner is lucky that he was dropped by Ollie Pope on 20 and J Root dropped Usman Khawaja on 1. Both batters were dismissed by Josh Tongue.

Steven Smith (85* from 149 balls) build two century run partnership with Marnus Labuschagne (47 runs from 93 balls) and with Travis Head (77 runs from 73 balls). Travis Head attacked the England bowlers with strike rate of 105.47.

Joe Root who took the responsibility of a spinner in the absence of Moeen Ali dismissed Travis Head and Camerron Green 0(3) in a single over. He took 2 wickets for 19 runs in his 8 over spell so far.

Josh Tongue (2/88 in 18 overs) and Ollile Robinson (1/86 in 21 overs) are the other wicket takers for England.

Steven Smith 85*(149) and Alex Carey 11*(34) will resume the Australian innings on Day 2 from 339/5.
