Srilanka beat Afghanistan by 4 wickets in first match of super 4 stage in Asia Cup. Batted first Afghanistan scored 175/6 in 20 overs and Srilanka chased it down in 19.1 overs with four wickets and five balls remaining.

Rahmanullah Gurbaz 84(45) outstanding innings with four fours and six sixes and Ibrahim Zadran’s 40(38) helps Afghanistan to post 175/6 in 20 overs.

Srilankan bowlers bowled outstandingly well in last 5 overs by giving only 37 runs and picked 5 wickets to restrict Afghanistan to 175.

Maheesh Theekshana (1/29) , Asitha Fernando (1/34) and Dilshan Madushanaka (2/36) are the wicket takers for Srilanka.

Srilankan openers Pathum Nissanka 35(28) and Kusal Mendis 36(19) gives a good start in chase by scoring 62 runs in 6.3 overs before Naveen ul Haq dismissed K Mendis.

After the opening partnership Afghanistan came back in to the game by picking wickets at regular intervals. D Gunathilaka 33(20) and B Rajapaksha 31(14) cameos helps Srilanka cross the line in tight chase.

Poor batting in last five overs and dropped catches cost Afghanistan the match.

Rahmanullah Gurbaz 84(45) named Player of the match for his outstanding batting.

Next match will be played between India and Pakistan on September 4th , 7:30pm (IST).
