Punjab Kings parts away with Anil Kumble and in search of new coach. Anil Kumble joined the franchise in 2020. Under his tenure in three they were not able to qualify for playoffs.

During his tenure as coach Punjab Kings managed to win only 18 matches out of the 42 matches played.

Punjab Kings finished fifth in 2020 and 2021 edition of IPL. In 2022 edition they finished sixth when ten teams competed compared to eight in 2020 and 2021.

After his outstanding cricket career as a player for India he became the head coach of Indian team in 2016. He also served as mentor for Royal Challengers Banglore and Mumbai Indians.
